THE GEOMETRY
Geometric decorations trace their origins to late Roman and Byzantine traditions. These forms are most directly linked to the mathematical knowledge of Islamic culture, which itself drew from Greek concepts of proportionality and modularity. Starting from simple shapes, such as the square and its repetition, rotation, and multiplication, these compositions evolve into complex forms and intricate interlacements, all adhering to strict construction rules. The geometry in Palestinian costumes inspires floral decorations. The composition of the Moroccan door follows abstract principles, while the grid of the Sicilian tile is derived from Arab-Norman mosaics.
