THE ALHAMBRA VASE

The “Alhambra” type vase is a rare example of terracotta found in Sicily, with only two others known: one in the Abatellis Regional Museum in Palermo and the Sant’Ugo jar in Novara di Sicilia. This object, characterised by the coexistence of various decorations typical of Islamic tradition, serves as a dictionary of ornaments in the exhibition. It is entirely covered with dense relief plant decorations and an inscription running along the handles. Purchased by Ludovico Corrao for the museum collections, this Spanish production from the Nasrid period (12th-14th century AD) features terracotta artifacts coated with lead glazing.
